 MYOTONIC'S OTHER KNOWN NAMES

These fine goats are known by many names. Here are just a few. Myotonic Goats, Tennessee Fainting Goats, Stiff Legged, Wooden Legged, Nervous or Fainting Goats. In reality they do not faint. They are very much aware of their surroundings. They do not pass-out.Their muscles do "lock-up".This condition is called "Myotonia", which in turn helps produce the muscling in these goats. The more they stiffen, the more the muscle. This condition only lasts a few seconds then they are back up and on their feet. MYOTONICS, the word myotnia congenita means-an inherited neuro-muscular condition which causes the goats to stiffen and fall over if suddenly startled. They carry a better meat-to-bone ratio then any other meat animal. Myotonia is not a defect of these goats.
